Introduction to Patents (Hawaii Island - Kona)

Jun

2019
Wed 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Topic: Business Basics

If your business has Intellectual Property (IP) that can be protected, (inventions, the design or name of your product, your methods of making and using your product, or the marketing slogans and images you use to sell it) and you don't protect your IP, you're potentially giving it away to competitors. This workshop will explain how to protect your IP through the patenting process. A follow up workshop in August will explain how to protect and license your trademarks. This workshop will cover: • What is patentable • Patent applications and patent claims • How to commercialize a patented invention (commercialization usually takes more effort than inventing!) • How and when to license your patent claims (e.g., for commercialization) • How to enforce your IP rights and to defeat false claims of infringement You won’t leave this workshop, which focuses on IP from a small business perspective, as a patent expert, but you’ll learn enough to know when you need a patent expert.
